About this resource
Originally written in 1890, this biography of our nation's founder is more timely than ever. The greatness of the United States of America is due in part to the Declaration of Independence and, later, the Constitution upon which our nation's laws rest. But in even greater measure, American greatness stems from the minds and morality of the Founding Fathers. The morality of George Washington shaped his mind, and his mind shaped our nation forevermore. Also in this series: Patrick Henry John Adams
Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924) was historian, politician, and wise statesman, all in one. A Republican from Massachusetts, Lodge was almost single-handedly responsible for killing Woodrow Wilson's plan for U.S. involvement in the League of Nations. He fought for the rights and security of all citizens, regardless of color, to have vote in national elections. Lodge was also an historian extraordinaire, receiving one of the first Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Harvard University.
