Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924) was historian, politician, and wise statesman, all in one. A Republican from Massachusetts, Lodge was almost single-handedly responsible for killing Woodrow Wilson's plan for U.S. involvement in the League of Nations. He fought for the rights and security of all citizens, regardless of color, to have vote in national elections. Lodge was also an historian extraordinaire, receiving one of the first Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Harvard University.
